I had very limited exposure to Julien Baker before covering her show for Allston Pudding. Her show at Cafe 939 in Boston was one of the best I had seen in a while. Julien walked out on stage, alone with just her guitar and powerful presence. She delicately commanded the crowds attention song after song. Please go see Julien Baker if you have the chance. And while I think my words are pretty, please go and read the show review by Lauren Moquin for Allston Pudding.
Before Julien Baker took the stage, Gracie and Rachel (and their drummer) set the mood. The three piece plucked and thumped and pounded the keys. A minimalist drum set up - bass drum and rim clicks - was a strong foundation for the female duo who soothed the audience with their tight vocal harmonies.
